Bays
and Beaches of Whangaparaoa
The Whangaparaoa Peninsula is home to many
beautiful and quiet bays, good for walking and
swimming.
ARKLES
BAY
Is a very sheltered, sandy beach and provides
entrance to Weiti River estuary.
ARMY BAY
Provides good access to reef diving and fishing
area. There is a walkway around the tip of the
peninsula to Shakespear Park – check the tides
before you leave and only venture on the
outgoing tide.
GULF
HARBOUR MARINA
Has a launching ramp that allows cars
and trailers right down to the water,
although care should be taken in south
westerly winds.
You can
also easily access Tiritiri Matangi
Island by boat from here which is a well
renowned wildlife sanctuary.
LITTLE MANLY
Is a short, tree lined beach offering excellent
fishing from rocks. It is protected from
northerly winds and the eastern headland
contains a network of public and private
walkways.
MANLY
Is home to the Manly Yacht Club which is
suitable for small boats. There is a launching
ramp and long sandy beach for safe swimming.
MATAKATIA
Is flat and has a muddy bottom. There are great
views across the harbour to Auckland.
OKOROMAI BAY
Offers a safe swimming spot. There are muddy
flats at low tide and good picnic areas.
OREWA
BEACH
The most dramatic beach on the coast. It
is almost straight and over two
kilometres long, sandy, good surf with a
surf club at the Eastern end.
RED BEACH
So named for the ginger-coloured shells is also
a surf beach with a surf club. It is a mix of
sandy beachfront and shaded cliff top.
SHAKESPEAR REGIONAL PARK
Is run as a farm park and faces south
towards Auckland. There are bush walks,
camping and picnic areas within it.
STANMORE
BAY
The second longest beach on the Hibiscus
Coast. There is a launching ramp off the
sand for small boats and the home of the
Leisure Centre.
TINDALLS BAY
Is a quiet sandy beach facing north for maximum
sun. There is good fishing from the rocks at the
western end.
