WHAT IS DESTINATION OREWA BEACH (DOB)

Destination Orewa Beach is the Orewa Beach Business Association and is a registered Incorporated Society. There are more than 275 members; all business members are located in the Orewa town centre and residential areas of Orewa.

Destination Orewa is part of  a Business Improvement District (BID) programme organized by Auckland Council and works with business districts to improve the local business environment and grow the regional economy. This programme creates a relationship between the council and business associations, which are separate entities. There are currently 50 BIDs in Auckland, representing over 25,000 businesses.

Destination Orewa is governed by an elected executive committee representing the business association registered members.

WHO IS A MEMBER?

Anyone that owns, occupies or is a tenant of a commercially rated property within the Orewa rateable area  and has completed a contact form is a member of the Business Association.

An executive committee of elected business people and a representative from the Local Board of Auckland Council, ensures Destination Orewa Beachs’ programme operates efficiently and works towards meeting its objectives.

WHAT IS AN ASSOCIATE MEMBER?

A person who does not qualify to be a full member (due to location or less than 2 employees) may become an Associate Member of the association by applying to the Operations Manager to do so. The Executive Committee shall determine whether or not
the applicant shall be admitted and if so, the associate member shall pay an annual special subscription of $200 + GST.

OREWA RATEABLE AREA

HOW IS DESTINATION OREWA BEACH FUNDED?

Auckland Council applies a BID targetted rate to commercial rate payers/property owner within the Orewa BID rateable area.
This is indirectly passed to business owners/tenants within their lease outgoing charge.

WHAT ARE THE DESTINATION OREWA BEACH OBJECTIVES?

To promote the development and enhancement of the town centre
To drive foot traffic into / through the town centre
To improve and maintain (via appropriate stakeholders) the town amenities, streets, reserves and parks, security and infra-structure
To provide a voice for members who need representation
To increase economic development
To work with appropriate local authorities and stakeholders to undertake town centre projects as they arise
– To seek out promotion / initiative opportunities to increase exposure of the Orewa area and town centre
To create and implement events, festivals and promotions to directly benefit members
To promote business and retailers through the web page, brochure, newsletters and facebook pages.

Assurance that maintenance of the town centre and surrounds are kept up to standard

WHAT ARE THE DESTINATION OREWA BEACH MEMBERSHIP OBLIGATIONS?

During their membership of Destination Orewa Beach Business Association Members commit themselves to:
Professional behaviour and attitude in all dealings with all employees, contractors, members and Executive Committee.
Members should be straightforward, honest and sincere in their approach to their work.
Members should conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the good reputation of the Association and refrain from any conduct that might bring discredit to the Association

WHAT IS THE DESTINATION OREWA BEACH COMPLAINT PROCEDURE?

In the event where there exists any dissatisfaction in a member(s), Executive Committee(s) or contractor(s) and/or employee(s) performance of their duties, the Member will adhere to the following procedures;
Present the matter, in writing, to the Chairperson.
The Chairperson will submit it to the Executive Committee for investigation and, where necessary, remedial action will be taken. – The outcome of this process will be reported back to the complainant.
In the event that the complainant is unhappy with the outcome of the investigation, that member may appeal to the Hibiscus & Bays Local Board Chairperson.
In dealing with any matters raised against employees/contractors, the Members and the Executive Committee will conduct themselves in accordance with the terms of the appropriate Employee/Contractor Contract.

DESTINATION OREWA BEACH MARKETING AND PROMOTION OPPORTUNITIES?

Orewa Beach Visitors Guide:
To several local businesses, this brochure is the only form of paid advertising they undertake is it meets all their needs. All members received a free line listing in this brochure. Refer to the website for enhanced promotion options. Distribution is 40,000 copies, North Island wide. Compilation of this brochure begins in April and you will be contacted by the Operations Manager at that time to secure your advertising space. This Guide is formatted to appeal to the local residential community as well as businesses and visitors.
