Orewa Beach Boulevard Opening
An estimated
15,000 people turned out for the official
opening of the Orewa Beach Boulevard which
celebrated both the community and their
wishes to reconnect the town centre to the
Orewa beachfront.
New Zealand Land Transport Regional
Director; Wayne McDonald and Deputy Mayor
John Kirikiri officially cut the ribbon to
mark the occasion.
There was further cause to celebrate when Mr
McDonald asked the audience if this
community event should become an annual
event, of which the crowd responded with a
huge cheer of support.
The festival was an enormous success,
catering to all age groups with music,
roaming entertainment, food and street
stalls and restaurant/café dining.

said the event is summed up by the following
email of which we have received many, along
with personal visits to our office from
members of the public and numerous telephone
calls acknowledging the communities
enjoyment and support for this event.
“I just thought I'd drop you a line to say
that I thought the Boulevard opening day
last Saturday was absolutely fantastic! Best
day I’ve had in ages.
My partner and I went along at 10am and were
going to stay an hour or so, however after
checking out the stalls and enjoying a
mussel fritter, we sat ourselves down
outside Kaizen Cafe and stayed right to the
end....as the music was soooo fantastic !!
I have to say
that this was the most exciting thing that
I've ever been to in Orewa and hope that it
can be a regular annual event. I've never
seen so many people in Orewa! ..and it was
crowded throughout the whole day......It
really brought the town alive.”
This event
was quite unique as there were many people
and companies involved that were passionate
in trying to create an amazing community
space which the public could enjoy whilst
reconnecting the beachfront to the town
centre.
